Summary of the 12th International East Africa Psychology Conference.

October 10th-11th, 2024
Location: University of Kisubi, Uganda and online

The 2024 International East Africa Psychology Conference was held onf October 10th – 11th at the University of Kisubi in Uganda. This year’s theme, “Community-Based Participatory Mental Health Care and Services.”

The conference addressed key subthemes, including the need to prioritize mental health in the workplace, the complex dynamics of family and mental health, empowering communities to take charge of local mental health initiatives, bridging gaps in mental health care access, and understanding the mental health implications of climate change.

With over 400 Participants across multiple locations in Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, the DRC, Burundi, the USA, and beyond, the conference brought together mental health professionals, educators, community leaders, and international partners. Local events at partner sites and virtual sessions ensured a global reach, facilitating collaborative discussions and the exchange of diverse perspectives.

Looking ahead, the focus for 2025 will remain Community-Based Participatory Mental Health Care, with a focus on family wellbeing. Together, we aim to strengthen the role of families, communities, and workplaces in fostering mental health.
